No Stone Is Unturned In Our Boat Inspections.

Our Comprehensive Boat Inspection Process

At Complete Boat Inspections, we provide a detailed and thorough examination of every boat we inspect. Our process is broken down into five key areas to ensure no detail is overlooked.

The Hull:

We carefully assess the hull for any signs of fatigue, rot, osmosis, or corrosion. These structural elements are crucial to the boat's longevity and safety. We look for any potential weaknesses that could affect the boat's performance and safety on the water.

System Check:

A full system check covers all essential accessories and components, including electronics, controls, steering, water and fuel systems, electrical systems, and anchoring ability. We ensure that everything is functioning properly and that no hidden issues could arise later, saving you from costly repairs down the line.

The Engine:

The engine is at the heart of the boat’s performance, and we leave no stone unturned in our evaluation. This includes checking the overall condition, performing compression tests, taking oil samples, inspecting for corrosion, running computer diagnostics, and testing the steering system and controls. We also conduct load testing during sea trials to assess engine performance under real conditions.

The Trailer:

We inspect the trailer’s frame and crossmembers for rust, both major and surface. The axles, springs, wheel bearings, brakes, tyres, and rims are also checked to ensure they are in good working order. We also confirm that the trailer’s lights are fully operational, ensuring your boat is safe for transport.

Sea Trial:

The sea trial is where everything comes together. As a seasoned skipper with over 30 years of experience, I have the expertise to identify even the slightest issue during the trial. This step is essential in evaluating the boat's overall performance and ensuring it meets your expectations in real-world conditions. It’s the final and most crucial part of the inspection process, providing you with maximum insight into the boat's true condition.

Comprehensive Boat Inspection Reporting Process

The Report Process

At Complete Boat Inspections, we believe in providing clear, transparent, and comprehensive information at every stage of your boat inspection.

Our reporting process is broken down into stages to ensure you fully understand the boat’s condition and make an informed decision.

  • Verbal Report:
Immediately following the inspection, you’ll receive a call where Glen will walk you through the boat's overall condition. He will highlight any identified issues and answer any questions you have on the spot.

  • Written Report:
After the verbal report, a detailed written report is generated. This report will include corresponding pictures to visually outline any issues discovered during the inspection. We ensure that every point is clearly explained, providing an easy-to-understand breakdown of the boat's condition.

  • Diagnostic Report (If Applicable):
If the boat’s engine has fuel injection, we provide a detailed diagnostic report. This report includes in-depth information about the engine’s performance, giving you a better understanding of its condition and helping you make an informed decision.

  • Delivery & Follow-Up:
Once the written and diagnostic reports are complete, they will be sent to your nominated email address for easy access. Following this, a follow-up call will take place to ensure all your questions are answered and to discuss any necessary next steps.

Frequently Asked questions

FAQ's About Boat Inspections

We understand that boat inspections can be overwhelming. Below are some frequently asked questions to help guide you through the process:

What type of boats do you inspect?

Anything from a small dinghy to a flybridge cruiser, just keep in mind that this is not a survey intended for insurance or finance purposes for boats that live in the water. This service is a recreational boat pre-purchase inspection only. Most insurers do accept our reports for "condition reports" on trailerable craft up to 8 meters. This service may be very useful as a pre-survey to find out big ticket problems before engaging a surveyor on larger vessels.

What does a boat inspection include?

Our inspections cover the hull, engine, trailer, systems, and more. We also provide a diagnostic engine report if applicable.

How long does a boat inspection take?

Typically, inspections take 2-4 hours depending on the size and condition of the boat.

Do I need to be present during the inspection?

While it's not required, being present allows you to ask questions in real-time and get a better understanding of the inspection findings.

Are your reports accepted by insurers?

Yes, our inspections are accepted for "condition reports" on trailerable boats under 8 meters in length. However, this is not a survey intended for insurance or finance purposes for boats that live in the water.
